PTI Rejects Referendum Proposal on the Creation of New ProvincesPeshawar: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has opposed the holding of a referendum on the creation of new provinces. PTI leader Shafiullah Jan made the statement during the Geo News program Capital Talk. He said his party would not support a referendum on the proposal of creation of new provinces. During the program, Minister of State Barrister Aqeel Malik argued in favor of a referendum. He said the Constitution provides a procedure for holding referendums. Pakistan Peoples Party leader Palwasha Khan also questioned the referendum proposal. She said the Constitution already provides a procedure for creating new provinces. Khan asked whether a referendum could replace that constitutional process. She also criticized the idea of using the option of a referendum to decide the issue. According to her, political leaders should follow the procedure already established by the Constitution.
