Shehbaz Condemns Indian Strikes in Call with Rubio
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned on Thursday Indian drone strikes and missile attacks on Pakistan during a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
PM Shehbaz stated that the attacks resulted in the martyrdom of 31 civilians and left 57 others injured. “India has violated Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. These actions pose a serious threat to peace and stability in the South Asian region," said PM Shehbaz.
The Pakistan prime minister and the US Secretary of State agreed to remain in contact amid rising tensions in South Asia. The US Secretary of State reiterated a commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region, urging both Pakistan and India to cooperate in reducing tensions.
US Senator Marco Rubio stated that the United States is closely monitoring the situation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed appreciation for President Trump’s concern over the security environment in South Asia. He said the people of Pakistan are deeply angered by India’s unprovoked military actions. Citing the UN Charter, he affirmed that Pakistan reserves the right to act in self-defense.
Separately, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar contacted the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, to brief him on the grave regional situation following the Indian attacks.
The OIC secretary general reiterated the Organization’s steadfast support for Pakistan, a founding member. Dar informed the secretary general that the Indian attacks constitute a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and are tantamount to an act of war. He emphasized that innocent civilians have been martyred in these attacks, posing a serious threat to regional peace and stability.
