Guest House Star Khalid Hafeez Khan Passes away
Veteran television actor Khalid Hafeez Khan, the star of PTV’s 1991 sitcom Guest House, passed away in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The state broadcaster confirmed the news of the actor’s passing on Tuesday. His former co-star Afzal Khan — known popularly as Jan Rambo — posted about his death, saying his funeral would be held in Islamabad after Maghrib prayers the same day.
Khalid played the role of Mr Shamim, the well-meaning but stingy owner of the titular guest house in the 1991 drama. He starred alongside Sarwat Ateeq, who played Shamim’s spendthrift wife Raheela, and Afzal, whose breakout performance as John Rambo the janitor earned him praise and a stage name.
The late actor also played the role of an officer in the PTV docu-drama Nishan-i-Haider: Captain Mohammad Sarwar Shaheed in 1980, based on the life of the first recipient of Pakistan’s highest honour for wartime gallantry.
Members of the entertainment fraternity offered their condolences on Khalid’s passing, with actors Zhalay Sarhadi, Omair Rana and Shagufta Ejaz sending prayers in the comments under Instagram posts announcing the death.
Bushra Ansari posted a picture of the late actor, writing, “We had a long association with him. RIP Khalid bhai.”
The stars will shine just a little bit dimmer tonight knowing one of their own is no longer with them. - Images Staff
