Shura Council Statement on the Attack on Islamabad Mosque
Orange, CA: The Islamic Shura Council of Southern California condemns the deadly attack on worshippers at a mosque for the Shia community in Islamabad, Pakistan, which killed 31 congregants and injured 169. This violence against people gathered for prayer is a grave violation of the sanctity of religious life and all Islamic principles.
Houses of worship must remain places of safety and refuge. Such an attack inflicts deep pain on victims, their families, and communities everywhere who cherish the freedom to pray without fear. We extend condolences to those mourning their loved ones and pray for the recovery of the injured.
Authorities have detained suspects and are pursuing those responsible. We call for a thorough investigation and stronger protections for vulnerable communities from extremist violence. The targeting of a minority congregation underscores the urgent need to safeguard all people of faith.
In this moment of grief, we urge unity in rejecting terrorism in all forms. May the victims be granted mercy, the injured healing, and their families strength and patience. Ameen
