Nuzaira Azam Appointed to the Virginia Council on Women
Richmond, VA: Governor Glenn Youngkin has appointed Nuzaira Azam, a distinguished journalist and community advocate, to the Virginia Council on Women. Ms Azam was officially sworn in on Tuesday, August 26, at the historic Virginia State Capitol by Secretary of the Commonwealth Kelly Gee.
The Virginia Council on Women advises the Governor on issues of importance to women, with a focus on promoting educational, professional, cultural, and civic opportunities for women and girls throughout the Commonwealth.
A resident of Herndon, Virginia, Azam brings decades of experience in journalism and civic leadership to the Council. She is the founder and president of The Global Beat Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to fostering dialogue, leadership, and community engagement. The Foundation offers seminars, workshops, and youth forums that address contemporary issues, with a particular focus on empowering women and developing leadership. It also offers specialized training for journalists, with a focus on supporting women in the media.
Azam’s appointment underscores her long-standing commitment to amplifying voices in underserved communities and promoting gender equity in public discourse.
