Treasures of Time by Sadequain

Sadequain’s monumental mural Treasures of Time stands as one of his most intellectually ambitious and visually commanding works — a sweeping tribute to the exalted personalities who shaped the world’s intellectual, scientific, literary, and artistic horizons.
SADEQUAIN Foundation publication Treasures of Times is the first book that documents the monumental mural.

Conceived as an expansive continuum of human genius, the mural assembles towering figures from antiquity to modernity, portraying them not as isolated luminaries but as interconnected links in the long chain of human progress. True to Sadequain’s characteristic idiom, the mural pulses with energy, motion, and an unrelenting search for meaning, capturing not only the individuals depicted but the very spirit of inquiry that defines civilization.
At the heart of Treasures of Time is the idea that great thinkers transcend eras. Sadequain brings together philosophers like Socrates, Plato, and Ibn Sina; scientists such as Galileo, Newton, and Einstein; writers and poets ranging from Ghalib to Shakespeare; and artists whose contributions shaped the grammar of visual culture. Each personality is rendered with stylistic sensitivity; Sadequain avoids literal portraiture, instead using expressive lines, elongated forms, and symbolic gestures to represent their intellectual essence. This approach allows the mural to function less as a static gallery of portraits and more as a dynamic panorama of ideas.

Sadequain’s distinctive calligraphic line, bold, sweeping, and intensely rhythmic, serves as the connective tissue of the composition. The figures emerge from and dissolve into a web of strokes, suggesting that knowledge is cumulative, layered, and inseparable from the cultural contexts that produce it. His palette, dominated by earthy hues and dramatic contrasts, reinforces the thematic gravity of the mural. The subdued tones do not diminish the work’s power; instead, they command reflection, inviting the viewer to contemplate the legacy of these giants.
What elevates Treasures of Time beyond a mere historical homage is Sadequain’s vision of knowledge as a moral and civilizational responsibility. By juxtaposing thinkers from different epochs, cultures, and disciplines, he underscores that intellectual heritage is universal. No single tradition owns wisdom; it is humanity’s shared inheritance. This message resonates powerfully in today’s fractured world, proving the mural’s timeless relevance.
Established in 2007, SADEQUAIN Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to discovering, preserving, and promoting Sadequain’s art globally. To that end, the Foundation has published 25 books on Sadequain’s life and work, and curated more than 100 seminars and exhibitions around the globe resulting in resurrection of Sadequain from obscurity.

Dr Salman Ahmad, an electrical engineer by profession, founded the SADEQUAIN Foundation in June 2007 to catalog Sadequain’s work and introduce it to the world. He has authored 25 books on Sadequain. Many more are in the pipeline.
