Los Angeles, CA: The Women’s’ Committee of the Pakistan Club, consisting of Dr. Nasreen Sattar Khan, Mrs. Ume Salma Farooqui, Mrs. Afshan Farooq, Mrs. Nilofer Zaidi, and Mrs. Seema Ahmed, organized a “Youth Workshop” at the Beijing Islamic Chinese Restaurant on Friday, December 25, 2009 . The objective of the Workshop was to encourage the community’s youth to interact with each other and share knowledge and experiences of college and high school education with their juniors, and assume leadership roles in the community.
The youth present at the event included those who have already graduated college and entered the working world as well as those who are still in the process of acquiring their bachelor’s degree. Present in the audience were a large number of parents and children eager to partake in this ground-breaking informational event that sought to connect youth of all ages.
The event began with a short recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Mariam Khan, followed by the recital of Urdu poetry and songs by Jazmyn Mansuri, Huda Khan, and Midhat Farooq. High school student Sana Ahmad read an article of hers that was published in a local paper. The program also consisted of speeches on the American schooling system versus those of other countries and on the importance of community service, delivered by Razi Zaidi and Anila Ali respectively.
